EMC Testing

CE Mark

RTL offers CE Mark testing to the European Union EMC directive. When affixed to an electrical apparatus, the CE Mark is a manufacturer's declaration that the electrical apparatus complies with the essential requirements of the appropriate European directives.

The EU's harmonized standards provide permissible limits, guidelines, test procedures and methods for emissions, immunity and electrical safety levels for electrical apparatus testing and placement in the market。 Product-specific standards are applied as defined in the individual product-standard scopes; the generic standards for emissions apply if there are no product-specific standards published in the European Union Official Journal。

The European Union's EMC directive 2004/108/EC became effective on July 20, 2009, replacing EMC directive 89/336/EEC。 This new directive enlists the requirement for electrical devices to meet Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) control limits, and all electrical devices entering the EU market must meet the criteria stated in the directive。

EMC directive 2004/108/EC establishes the essential requirements that facilitate free access for all electrical goods designed for the EU, such that (1) the electromagnetic disturbance generated does not exceed the level above which radio and telecommunications equipment, or other equipment, cannot operate as intended; and (2) an expected level of immunity to electromagnetic disturbance is required, which allows the electrical goods to operate without unacceptable performance degradation of its intended use。

The table below lists some of the tests we perform; it is not all-inclusive:

IEC 61000-3-2; EN 61000-3-2 Harmonics
IEC 61000-3-3; EN 61000-3-3 Flicker

IEC 61000-6-3; EN 61000-6-3

IEC 61000-6-4; EN 61000-6-4

Generic Emissions ITE/Industrial
IEC 61000-4-2; EN 61000-4-2 Electrostatic Discharge
IEC 61000-6-3; EN 61000-6-3 Radio Frequency
IEC 61000-4-4; EN 61000-4-4 Electrical Fast Transient
IEC 61000-4-5; EN 61000-4-5 Surge
IEC 61000-4-6; EN 61000-4-6 Conducted Immunity
IEC 61000-4-8; EN 61000-4-8 Magnetic Field

EN 61000-6-1; EN 61000-6-2

CISPR 24; EN 55024

Generic Immunity ITE
IEC 61000-4-11; EN 61000-4-11 Voltage Dips/Variations

2004/108/EC eliminates the requirement for Competent Body review and approval for family-grouped products, or for products within the Generic/Product Specific Standards, for which an alternate test procedure is required.

RTL is an EMC test lab that offers compliance testing to the rules and regulations of FCC and ISED Canada。
